What a bunch of crap. Friend of mine told me he heard this story on the radio today, so I checked it out. Funny thing is I didn't even know Liberty Belle was coming in. Oh well, chalk another great one up to Philly leadership.....thank you mayor.

By thier reasoning all flights in the area around Philidelphia should be stopped immediately. And an emergency spending bill needs to be passed so that the necessary funds can be allocated to have nerf material installed on all sharp edges in Philidelphia city limits.

Politicians.... wonder what thier ballistic qualities are like?

I'm not sure they can deny access to a publicly funded airport, especially one that has received FAA trust money. Besides that issue ...what a bunch of dumb A$$es !!!! Liberty trust should file a suit to recoup all lost revenue.

no offense to the professions / jobs.... but the lawyers / insurance biz is way out of hand, & so are facets of local, state & national laws country wide because of it. liberty belle... 1 plane, a major risk to philly, it's absurd. all the above are contributory to the ruination of our country & free enterprise. i'm an independent business owner, & these entities are squeezing the life's blood out of my business little by little by 1st hand experience. it's disgusting, & the greed that goes with it is doubley disgusting because the lawyers / insurance companies get the nod of approval from the govt to rip off the taxpaying public. the city of philly did more than cheat their city out of a historical icon, they denied 1st hand knowledge & experience for something that saved all of our lives, the young, naive, & historically ignorant were ripped off more than all, & all in the name of the almighty $$$$ buck :bs: regards, tom

Doesn't surprise me one but, unfortunately. Philly doesn't have a stellar record making decisions for the public good.

Going very OT here for a second, here's what the Mayor of Philly thinks about individual rights in his city:
Quote:
People should not be authorized to carry weapons on the streets of Philadelphia unless they have a good reason to do so

Apparently having it written in the Bill of Rights isn't a good enough reason. But then, when it's for the 'public good' of the city, what's wrong with stepping on a few individual rights here and there? :)

Don Brooks and his crew are really good people, and I hate to see the monetary loss that they're going to have to suck up over this stupidity. Philly can kiss my left nut.

/rant off

...Well, they have finally found a way to F*** wth general aviation. Insurance! We live under the ADIZ, which is a concocted bunch of trash which doesn't really protect the people under the skies near Wash D.C. And it is terrible to witness. This is absolute rubbish. I would bet that the African American Festival, which is going on right now in Philadelphia, doesn't have $25M in liability insurance attached to it, with the city listed as additional insured- it is probably riding on organizational insurance which is a policy rider on public insurance. Absolute trash. The 'Belle boys should move it to New Jersey, which has a few reasonable sized fields across the river, and say screw Philadelphia. Don, if you are reading this, sorry for your troubles! I am absolutely ashamed of my home state...

Sorry for the rant, I really like B17's and would like to see them keep flying...

When I read stories like this my blood boils. These petty beaurocrats have absolutely no idea. The Mayor of Philadelphia has been sent an eMail from Australia to show he is on a global stage and his short-sightedness has not gone unnoticed

Any chance it will go to another airport nearby like Lehigh Valley? It won't bypass the entire area because of Philly? What kind of insurance to the other flying B-17's have?

Pretty soon insurance will ground all warbirds. Maybe within the next 5-7 years. As your Doctor about how much their malpractice insurance is. That is if your Doctor is still practicing......

When I first read this thread this morning, I was so pissed that I thought better of responding right away. First thing is Don Brooks & The Liberty Belle folks are first rate & are true to their mission in the education about WW2 aviation, preserving the aircraft of that period, & honoring the brave men & women who flew & supported them. What a slap in the face with this Mickey Mouse B.S. about that aircraft being a risk. I think other Warbird operators better give this one a heads up & remember to check out the requirements well ahead of time before going a long way only to get pooped on. Just my two cents.

Per Forgotten fields remark - I happen to know an airfield in which the Belle could stay! I happen to know of a hangar built just for B-17s, clean, secure and plenty of room and best of all - no political BS and LOW rent!! Historic Wendover Airfield waits!!
