F-8 Mosquito photographs

Gentlemen,

I am preparing to submit an article titled, "The F-8 Mosquito Debacle", for publication in the non-profit, American Aviation Historical Society journal.

I wish to canvas members of this web site for any photo they may have of the de Havilland F-8 Mosquito aircraft to assist with illustrating the story. I will cover all costs involved to obtain 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 copy prints of this aircraft.

Any assistance web page members may provide will greatly be appreciated.

Yours very truly,
Norman Malayney

I can't help with photographs but, what debacle?

I gather the USAAF didn't like the F-8, I believe largely because it only had single-stage Merlins but is there more I don't know?

More than 50 percent were involved in crashes or accidents. USAAF pilots were not provided prior flight training on takeoff and landing the aircraft, resulting in the high crash rate. Thus the USAAF ferry units refused to fly them to the UK.

The article also corrects misinformation previously appearing in UK books and magazines regarding the history of this aircraft. It is all new history with documented facts from official files, not hearsay or plagiarized misinformation.

Dear Martin,

Thank you for your reply and references.

I wrote the article on the F-8 that appeared in the Canadian Aviation Historical Society journal. I recently located more information at the National Archives, College Park, MD and added this information to expand the story for AAHS publication.

Yours very truly,
Norman Malayney
