Twin Turbo Chrysler Hemi Aircraft Engine

You guys might get a kick out of this. It went into a mid-engine, pusher prop as I recall.

Fred Geshwender was a very nice guy as well as being a talented engineer. He was succesfully flying auto conversion big blocks when most of us were still in high school. His chain drive reduction units were very reliable. He modified a bunch of 460 Fords for agplane use. I worked with him on a beltdrive for a Mercury Marine 2 cycle fuel injected V-6 that put out 230 hp and weighed 200 lbs. It showed great promise but it suffered from lack of money. (mine) :lol: .

Wow...Lots of real sweet hardware you have pictured there...The Hemi is definitely wicked though, fuel injected, twin turbo, two plugs per hole with dual magnetos. "I gots to get me one of them!"

Yeah, that thing nearly ripped the 1000hp dyno off it's mounts. The red V-6 was for an IMSA GTP car driven by Danny Ongais and made 900+ HP on gas.

The splayed valve motor was the same style 90 degree Chevy block but in aluminum with big block style heads. It was for Indy and the 204 cu in motor with 57" of boost on alcohol was 800+ hp and weighed, as it is pictured but with exhaust and clutch, about 220lbs.

The twin turbo V-8 was all aluminum 305 and was run in an IMSA Corvette. Power was only limited by traction. The guy who ran it could never get the power to the ground. Throttle response with the two small turbos was great, power and torque up the wazzooo!

We also dyno'd twin turbo Ford 427's for Little Vince Granitelli that made over 1000 hp and were run in boats that raced 50 miles up the Colorado River and 50 down, flat out with a skier on the back. Some fun, eh?

I think that's kind of like towing a hang glider behind a Mustang.
