Is 90989 a valid serial number or Bureau Number?

It's got a Harvard spade grip + what you can see of
the front cockpit (throttle grip, cockpit interior color,
etc.) is Harvard IV stuff.

Maybe they pieced an SNJ together from parts (some
gomers have been known to do things like
that....!!!).

Rudder pedals are HVD as well. As are the MAYWEST fairings

Lets just say the whole airplane except maybe the exhaust which looks more AT-6A/BC-1A. It seems to be located midway up the cowling

Had another look, and it has a Harvard IV rear (bird-cage)
canopy enclosure as well (How'd I miss that?).

If you would be so kind as to give me a hint, how can one tell
the Harvard Mae West fairings apart from the T-6/SNJ examples?

Excuse me for my ignorance , but weren't the Harvard, Texan and SNJ all pretty much the same aircraft? Besides having different designations (names) for its different customers, what are the basic differences?

And don't forget the hole in the right side panel where the exhaust/heater duct went.

I think it might be presumptuous of us to accuse someone of bolting SNJ dataplates onto a Harvard however. Use caution!

I don't know anyone that would stoop that low.

Might take a book to answer this question properly. The short answer is yes, they were all basically the same structurally. Some of the fitments and details were different however for the Canadian versions, and the Harvard 4's were built/assembled postwar in Canada rather than in the US. The T-6 series also changed gradually as improvements were made over time (12 to 24 volt system, steerable tailwheel, etc.). There were also postwar mods made to earlier aircraft in the Korean war era as well as mods made in foreign countries to meet mission specific requirements.

It has a HVD maywest on the left side and a NORTH AMERICAN on the right. If you look how the front of the wheel fairing part blends into the fuselage part of the panel. The HVD follows the wheel contour more. And the NORTH AMERICAN maywest has a smoother transition.
Just about every part between a NORTH AMERICAN built and a airplane built in CANADA have some subtle difference. Some interchange some dont.

to see if there is any difference. I bought them seperately
(different piles of parts), but haven't stripped the paint from
them to see what part numbers are on there....

Is the issue here that the SNJ-5 has a FAA cert but the Harvard IV doesnt? So, this is someone trying to pass off a Harvard IV as an SNJ-5 for legal purposes?

The real question is why are they doing such a bad job at it?
