Another Forum Moderator?

The recent -and regrettable- incidents that have taken place in this forum, where issues belonging to other web-sites were brought here to roost, have made me think about the need of having an involved monitoring of the forum's proceedings, in order to maintain the postings and the posters in their proper context.

Trends should be identified early on, to avoid them becoming troublesome issues if not "cut at the pass" as it were.

Thus, I would like to suggest to Scott and to the WIXers, the appointment of an additional forum moderator, and these are the people that I would like to propose for this role.

Mike Henniger

Setter

Rob Rohr

TimApNy

BDK

Tom Friedman

Aircraft Mech Paul

These names and user-id's, I propose based not only on the number of their postings, but also on their clearly evidenced knowledge on the subject of Warbirds, aviation in general, and their participation in the WIX forums.

Your opinions will be appreciated.

Saludos,

Tulio

tulio, i appreciate the vote of confidence. question.... re: other aviation related web sites & postings...... are there any certain copyright rules in place that would prevent somebody from snagging info from another board & posting it else where or in a competing site?? scott, your 2 cents would have much bearing on this too. regards, tom

Actually, it is not posting information from another forum -that is one of the facilities provided by the internet- but it is more a matter of personal ethics, moral principles and honor.

It doesn't matter if the material is published for profit or not. The auhtors of the material should receive full credit for the result of their work and knowledge. Full credit means their full name, not initials. Full credit is identifying the photo or the text, so that others may refer to it for whatever research purposes they may have in the future.

Then, there is the Millenium CopyRight Act of 1998, as published. Changes are in effect so that it will reflect the rightful ownership of published works, whether they are images or text (books, chapters, etc. when quoted verbatim)

Saludos,

Tulio

tulio, you sound very informed & well read on the issue, i salute your knowledge on the issue too. didn't know it was quite that serious. as an author of 4 magazine articles i can certainly understand the gravity of the situation. in many respects writing entails massive research, whether it's for posting on this site or for a national publication. bottom line.... in many respects my research time is worth more than my money, so i can certainly understand where your coming from. best to you, tom

Tom:

This is one of those issues where you are basically forced by circumstances, to learn all you can about it. I have the good fortune of having a great attorney as a friend, and he has provided me with plenty of research materials on the subject.

Thank you for your kind words.

Now, if I may, let's go back to the original purpose of this thread:

How about an additional, or two, or three, forum managers?

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio,

All the points listed certainly bear merit. I think all here are sympathetic to your latest woes; and even if an additional moderator is not immediately appointed, I would be in favor of at least initiating the pursuit of more help for Scott in this area.

Now tell the truth: You slipped the Colonel's name on that list just to see if we were paying attention, right? Right????....

Thank you for this attempt to provide Scott with some much needed support in any way we can. I have written to Scott in the past offering assistance and I would love to help out in any way I can.

Thank you also Tulio for your contribution here over the years, I always respect and note with interest your viewpoint - we don't always agree which is both healthy and interesting for all on the site but we are all as one in growing our interest and knowledge of Historic Aviation.

I must say as a personal friend of Robs I would just love to be there the day he is forced to ban himself - Now THAT would be a conversation worth hearing.

Kindest regards
John P

Thank you, guys.

WIX has grown to the point that leaving the load only on Scott and DJ51s shoulders, is in my opinion, too much.

Actually, I suggested Rob because, if we manage to keep him within reach of a good word speller, he has indeed, vast knowledge and experience in the warbirds field.

Rob is in my list, one of several persons that I think could perform their roles in a very helpful way for all of those involved.

But I have also included y'alls names, because through the years you guys have shown interest in the whole field, not in just one or two themes.

I have known many of you through these boards for at least 5 years, I have known Rob longer than that.

Probably the person best suited to fulfill this role, would be someone apt at knowing when something doesn't make sense, when something has been purposefully altered, where the data doesn't match with the known techincal details, people who have the right contacts in case of need.

But he also must be strict enough to act when it is necessary.

The WIX has been extremely lucky through time, not to have the problems that are so prevalent in other places. Scott has a lot to do with that, but also we, as WIXERS, have seen to it, that the people who participate here behave in a respectful and honest manner.

Scott knows it, and you guys know it now, that I am and have been, willing to help make this forum a good place to visit.

Let's see what everyone else has to say, but this is in the end, Scott's baby and he has the last word.

Saludos,

Tulio

Geez... Thanks for your vote of confidence regarding the knowlege. I still consider myself a cadet in that respect. As for moderator duties I am willing. Perhaps Scott could lay down guidlines for the moderator duties so that the moderators could not be accused of abusing their positions? As long as is done ahead of time I would not forsee any problems.

Mike

Scott,

Don't do this. All it did on Flypast was to create some little Hitlers who let the awsome power of being a moderator go to their head. Of course the webmaster there doesn't seem to be a living person, so nobody moderates the moderators. Quite sad.

You've done an excellent job in keeping things professional and civil here. If you need assistance I suggest you privately nominate a few people to act on your behalf when you're busy, but I would suggest they remain anonymous.

Just my thoughts on the subject...

Steve

Scott, I have to go with the opinion of our resident Sea Fury Race Pilot on this one. If we have a sure enough "problem child" like we had with a certain outspoken person here a short while back, then identify, warn & if need be kick their ass off the board. You do a good job, & we appreciate it. Thanks!
Regards
Robbie

Well, then Adapt and Improvise.

I agree with the last two postings.

The original idea was to appoint one or more people who could assist in monitoring the messages and to either warn or outright delete any offensive, out of place postings.

Having them acting behind the scenes, would be fine with me.

You will never please all of the people, and true, someone will always accuse you of taking sides on any issue, especially when the decission taken goes against you.

So, I am for it. The purpose of this thread, is to chew the fat on this idea. If it turns out that either Scott, or the majority decides it is not a good idea, then so be it. But at least we can exchange points of view like adults.

Saludos,

Tulio
