I have seen this photo identified to the 56th. The 56th HQ, 61st and 63rd FS were based at Bridgeport Airport for about 6 months before they shipped out to Europe. We have a beautiful 11x14 period print of this but I would love to be able to say for certain that it was from our area and not just a Republic PR Photo. Also any idea on the color of the nose bowl? Anyone?
Buler? Buler?

Rear stripes from back to front are blue, yellow, and red. The nose on the closest plane is red on top on top of yellow.

Zemke's (#1) nose bowl is red, yellow, and blue.

And don't forget that one of the birds in your pic is a survivor with Randy Ferris.

Those planes in the photo did not go overseas.

A few of those in the photo were involved in accidents in the states. The one close to the camera, P-47B 41-6002, was involved in two accidents in 1943: it survived a fatal midair with another P-47 on 14 Jan 43; Two months later the airplane crashed and was destroyed after attempting to make an emergency landing on a highway near Hope Valley, Rhode Island on 24 March 43. The pilot, F/O Oscar C. Kline, was killed.

One of them is under restoration. 41-5920, the 4th one in from the camera, is being restored by Randy Ferris in IL. Story here: http://www.warbirdradio.com/2012/04/ran ... m-eastern/
