I don't understand why planes like these are still cut up park um and wait somone will come get it.

Usually it's driven by the airport commission or manager who wants an ugly decrepit old bird farm off his airport. Seized for non payment of tie down fees, the owner deciding it will never be returned to the air either from the cost/scarcity of parts, the cost of fuel per gallon X how many engines burning Y gallons each per hour, and the market isn't exactly 'in demand' for 70 year old DC-4's. And something that big is hard to work on in your driveway and your HOA may be incensed.

I cant understand why a manager who is supposed to love aviation or atleast should could cut history and beauty apart like that. I mean jeez it made it through the mass scrappings of the 70s and 80s just to get cut to bits in 2013 I couldn't do it if I was in that position I love old planes too much. If the airport board wanted it gone then chances are its find its way to my front yard till I could find a good home for her or keep it Id rather have steam gauges and pistons vs glass and turbines

The cockpit was separated from the fuselage earlier this year. Hopefully it was saved. The old airplanes are not considered to be of any historic value by the city. Old aircraft are seen as non-revenue nuisances and are being systematically removed.

It's a business. The manager may love airplanes but the airport owner's in it for the $$$$.
