I notice this on the aircraft resource center's front page and thought that some here might be able to shed some light on the subject. Thanks

Hi Shay,
The ATIC (air technical intelligence center) had a huge gathering point of captured Japanese aircraft at Clark Field in 1945. Many examples were tested there and a few were forwarded to the US, Britain for further laboratory study, etc.

The Ki-43II, which came to be mounted on a pole, was the last of that gathering. In the 1950s, a base CO who had a remarkably bad flavor for WWII, had the plane scrapped.
HTH,
David Aiken

Thanks David. What a shame really.
