 Post subject: New toy for Cavanaugh?

Did the Cavanaugh Museum in Addison add another restoration project? I was by there this morning and saw what looked to be a vintage jet and wings on a trailer in front of the main hangar. I was in a big hurry so I didn't get a chance to see for sure what it was.

F-84F Thunderstreak. 51-9420.

Formerly with the Olympic Flight Museum. It was originally found up North by Steve and Dave Dennis and the museum got it because of a message here on WIX. Strangly enough, I was cleaning out the cockpit so we could assemble it just about this time four years ago, when I got alerted to fly my first mission to Afghanistan. It sure does seem like a long time ago!

The Museum will probably be getting rid of several of the static display airplanes in the future. We just don't have the hanger space to put them inside and sitting out in the Washington weather isn't doing them any good. That's part of the reason the C-123 was sold.

I'm personally glad to see the old girl go to the Cavanaugh museum. I'm sure she will get the treatment she deserves.

Thanks for the info! Do you know if Cavanaugh plans to restore to airworthy, or just static?

I'm really not 100% sure, but the Hunter and E.E. Lightning are probably candidates.

Well you might be refering to the P-47 waiting it's turn for the Corsair to be finished. Or maybe the Mohawk I have seen parked there. I wasn't sure if the Mohawk was theirs or just visiting.

Thanks for the update on the old Gal. I'm glad to hear that she is still cared about enough to be wanted by somebody. They don't make 'em like that anymore, (which is probably a good thing I guess...... :) ).

Doesn't take long for word to get around. Anyone know where we can get a vertical and control surfaces for the F84? Maybe a runout engine? Hope to have the Mohawk at Midland.

Kudos to the gang at Cavanuagh. I was just there last week for the ABS convention BBQ. What a place! As a long time CAFer I was truly envious. All the staff there were gracious and helpful. If you've never been to this museum, make it a point to go.

If the Olympic (or anyone else) has any other jets/helicopters they want to get rid of, let me know...my new house has three acres in back.
I rather like the idea of a plane back there!
