Good stuff.

A really good book on the topic, particularly the acquisition and use of the B-17s is "Hammers: Israel's Long Range Heavy Bomber Arm, the Story of 69 Squadron" by Zvi Avidror. It really describes what a shoestring operation the Israeli Air Force was during the 1948 war.

I've corresponded with Zvi for close to 15 years. He is quite an amazing individual: Royal Navy gunner during World War II. Wounded twice as an infantryman during the '48 war, and then went on to join the IAF as a B-17 gunner, remaining close to 69 Squadron through its reactivation with F-4s and the Yom Kippur War. "The Greatest Generation" was not exclusively an American trait.

Can't wait to see the full documentary. I've done a bit of research about the 1948 War of Independence. Fascinating story, that's for sure.
