While doing my homework for a potential CA trip I game across a notice on the Castle Air Museum site...

http://www.elite.net/castle-air/index.htm

They have acquired 4 airframes. Two of which are at the museum and they need help with the costs associated with the move of the other two.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

The F-102 is the ex- Planes of Fame example.

What about the F-100? Where did it come from?

I visited Castle back in early 2002:

Their B-36 was nice to see.

If you can visit, Merced and Madera also have gate guardians.

And I believe that there was a B-17 on Hwy 99, near Castle AFB.

Also, possibly in Lodi, on an airfield close to Hwy 99, there were several DC-3s.

Saludos,

Tulio

Castle has a B-17 but the one that Tulio mentions along Highway 99 is much further south past Fresno near the town of Tulare. It is at an airfield called Mefford Field. I've attached a link with some interesting info on the field: http://www.ghostbase.org/mefford/

PS. The B-17 has been broken twice by semi trucks running off of the highway into the plane.

Surprising that no one has got to that B-17 and restored it to flying. Someone's been slacking off! :D
