Movie Memphis Belle is going to Portland in a couple of weeks, I'd be very surprised if they don't add Seattle to the schedule after that. Keep an eye on the
www.libertyfoundation.org site for updates in the next week or so.
I realized today that Movie Memphis Belle has spoiled me for life. I went back and looked at pictures I've taken during other B-17 flights. What a difference it makes having no plexiglass in the waist gunner windows. The wind in the rear is intense but the views are a hundred times better than through dirty/scratched plastic.
Another thing I noticed in comparing photos I've taken over the years of Liberty Belle, Aluminum Overcast, Nine-O-Nine, and Movie Memphis Belle is that MMB has a more 'worn' appearance. I know it's a restored/rebuilt plane but it looks and feels more like a working combat plane than the others. Somehow it feels more realistic, less like a museum piece. I liked that aspect a lot.
But I don't want to be critical of any of them, I'm glad that there are groups keeping these in the air for people to experience.
I heard that Memphis Belle was 100% booked in Hayward, CA yesterday. Maybe the economy really is getting better. In the past few years I've seen EAA and Collings only filling one or two flights, hardly worth the expense of taking the planes out on such extensive tours. Liberty Foundation was doing very well indeed yesterday, and probably today.
