Regarding the Jug with the squadron codes "LM*O"...

In today's world, that would translate to "Laughing My (you know what) Off".

That last pic of the 13, 39th Fighter Squadron P-47's in formation, is taken over the foothills north of Nadzab, New Guinea. The valley floor of the Markham Valley is on the left. It's unusual for me to be able to identify geographical features(hills, rivers, etc...) in 5th Air Force pics, as one rain forest covered mountain looks very much like another. But as you can see, those grass covered hills are quite unique, and really stand out. They're only about 10 miles from the field. Thanks again, great pics.

This P-47C was sent to England and served with the 334th FS, 4th FG.
It was lost on April 3rd, 1943 when the pilot, Maj. Oscar Coen, bailed out near Alconbury because of a fire.

Definitely a Boxted bird, but the red/white/blue cowling and liferaft hanging from her hardpoints suggest she's doing ASR work for what then was referred to as "Detachment B" of the 65th Fighter Wing--eventually to become the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron.

Many will recall that we have a survivor (well, at least some significant bits of her) in this photo. 41-5920, the second ship from the end, was recovered by Randy Ferris back in the '90s.
