You can overlay footage of a modern Boeing jet being built and see that techniques used 72 years ago are still 'state of the art'. 747/767/777 fuselage bottoms are built as 'canoes' and turned over, placed in an assembly tool and finished exactly the same.

What amazes me with planes from this era is the level of craftsmanship that was attained while they were being produced both with the speed they were built as well as the sheer numbers that were produced.

I guess the automobile analogy would be the build quality and hand craftsmanship that goes into an Aston Martin, produced in the numbers of a Toyota Camry.
