As the war in Europe wound down B-17's were converted to support new missions, primarily cargo and personnel transport as well as photo-mapping duties (e.g., Project Casey Jones). The images shown here are of CB-17 conversions undertaken at the RAF modification center located at Honington Air Depot, apparently at the direction of the USAAF. Photos are all dated September 1945. In addition, an exterior photo of CB-17 Spam-O-Liner is included.

Very enlightening! I guess I sort of figured stuff got tossed out in a big pile on the ramp and plywood sheets and 4 x 6 benches were bolted in, those look pretty plush-'We doan need no steenkin radio operator no more'

My guess is the radio operator was moved to the bay behind the pilots - along with the flight engineer (no top turret).
