The fuselage of the O-58A is almost ready to paint, Did a final install of the newly fabricated boot cowls today after finding and cleaning out all other drilled tapped holes that were done before the fabric went on. The bellcrank cover, two inspection plates, fuel tank tray, boot cowls and rudder antenna mount will be painted along with the fuselage.

The trailing wire ceramic insulator is original and not a copy, it is the only original one I have ever seen.

42-7796 will be the only airworthy O-58A left in the world when we are done. She flew on active duty from November of 1941 till the Fall of 1945. Assignments included, Esler Army Airfield, Mitchel Field NY, Ft. Bragg, Savannah Ga., Pittsburg, Kansas and finally Tinker.

Extremely cool! Have you previously posted about your chosen markings?

Kevin, we are either going to do her as 109th Observation Squadron, Esler Field December, 1941 or the Army Air Force Liaison Pilot training school Pittsburg Kansas.

Here is a photo of an O-58A at Post Field in December 1941, Mine would be painted the same except the tail numbers would be 21 (aircraft #) and 109 ( 109th Observation Squadron) instead of 20 and 158. It would have the red center in the National Insignia and Large Black US Army on the wings . Overall Olive Drab with Neutral Gray under surfaces.

Pittsburg would be 1943 and the red center would be gone and it would have an orange radio call # on the tail 27796. The US Army on the wings would be gone, still ovearall OD with neutral gray.

Looks good!

Good luck with the project. I'll look forward to updates!
