My wife (Mrs EN830) has suggested that we may return to the US next year, instead of Sri Lanka. We did Florida last March and she feels the need to see some other parts of the colonies.

She has mentioned that as we didn't do anything for my 40th this year, as a special treat (at 40 I get very few of those) I will get to do a few warbird related things.

Can anyone suggest venues worth a visit, preferably in a temperate area, nothing too cold.

Head for California. Warm temperatures in the winter (although tell a local that and they think your are strange) and lots of aircraft. I spent a few days in Palm Springs and LA ealier this year and made it to four musuems...

As you can see this region is particularly nice for the high density of warbird collections.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Southern California is the place to come. We got a bunch of warbirds here. At almost every airport there will be warbirds. Plus the weather is great, which means lots of flying!

Also the Southern California Wing of the CAF in Camarillo, CA.

NAF El Centro Air Show was in March this year and probably for 2006.

Send me an email at mrhenniger@hotmail.com. I will send you a copy of my notes for California that include all of the Warbird sites that I know of. The Chino/Palm Springs area sites were recently updated, as well as the San Francisco sites.

There are a bunch more Air Shows in April and May.

Here is a list of some "good" Air Shows in Southern California:

Riverside Airshow - Riverside, CA - Early April
Wings Over Gillespie - El Cajon, CA - Late April
Warbirds in Action - Shafter, CA - Mid May
Planes of Fame Airshow - Chino, CA - Mid May
