Warbird Information Exchange

Flipping through some of the photo album's at Jack Kosko's hangar, I came across these four 8 x 10 glossy photos. Two of them, I think I've seen before: Maryland #1 for the French, but two of them, the in-flight pictures, I hadn't seen. Yes, I took a picture of a picture.

Maryland flying over the Martin factory. I'm having a hard time telling if this is a photo or a painting, or perhaps a retouched photo?

Maryland #1 for the French Air Force. The date on the picture is Sept. 12, 1939. I guess it was going to be needed very soon!

Finally, what I would imagine is the PBM prototype flying over Martin Field. Middle River is in the background, but I don't believe that is the Strawberry Point seaplane ramp.

The Maryland flying over the factory and Mariner shots look like composites. The props on the PBM definitely look airbrushed. I know the prototype had retractable wing floats, but did they disappear completely like that?

Cool pics nonetheless. I'm always looking for Maryland and Baltimore pics.

Steve: A careful look at the left prop and you can see the motion blur. If you continue moving outboard a little you can just make out the hump of the float retracted into the wing.
