I was just curious as to the distance between projectiles on one of these when they are fired. I know a few Migs were brought down by F-105's during the Vietnam war and figured if something got in the way of one of these cannons it would probably get hit by a bunch of rounds and not just one or two. How many rounds would a 1 or 2 second burst put out anyhow?

Between 67 and 100 for 1 second burst, depending on 4 or 6K RPM. Gun (M61A1) is physically capable of am RPM of about 7600 RPM, however.

Not sure how much initial spin up slows down the Vulcan, but that could lower the numbers some.

100 rounds per second, at just over 1000 metres per second puts 10 metres between rounds.

(all math simplified)
