Despite a full flying career in the USAF I was never issued any true cold weather gear. I've seen some around or on eBay and always wondered who had it, who used it, and why didn't I get any? It'snot like you see them in pictures that often either.

Any WIXers know much about this gear? Are they still made, still issued?? Were they issued or signed out on hand receipts only for certain missions? Just curious.

CWU-9/P jacket & trousers, aka Chinese Underwear. And if you did wear it, what did it fit under? Looks comfortable.

CWU-64/P Winter Nomex flightsuit. Looks like it was made of the same quilted material as the CWU-45 winter flight jacket (which I did have and it was too warm at times!)

CWU-43 Aramid longjohn bottom and turtleneck shirt. I did get a couple sets of these as initial issue and they were warm and comfortable for wear under a normal summer-weight flightsuit. I noticed, however, that my operational unit never seemed to have these and, when they did stock long underwear, it was the green Army polypro type, which is a no-no for fire resistance in flying ... so I passed on it.

Ken

I'm thinking there are newer versions of this flt gear out there. Probably need the original NSN to see if it is in the FSS.

I still have my blue nomex, waterproof flight suits for flying over cold water. Got both of the liners too. Got a couple of the cold weather parka's and the brown leather jackets.
