The sister of an RAF hero whose Second World War plane was found in a swamp near Berlin is urging the Government to help recover the aircraft and his body.
Archaeologists need £50,000 to raise the Halifax bomber, which contains the remains of navigator Peter Buck and four crew mates.
They were shot down in a raid in 1943 and Pat Davies, 93, from Eastbourne, East Sussex, said: "It would be a nice thing for them to finally be laid to rest in a proper burial.
"I think the government should do something - they went down protecting the country and doing their duty.”
Australian air gunners Flt Sgt Harley Harber, 27, and Sgt Arthur Cox, age unknown, were the only crew recovered by German soldiers and later buried in the Berlin 1939-45 war cemetery.
The families of the remaining airmen were simply told their relatives were “missing” after being shot down during the raid.
The crash site was only recently rediscovered by German aviation archaeologists - after the swamp began to dry up and push parts of the wreckage to the surface.
The remaining trapped crew are Australian pilot Flt Sgt. William Burgum, 21, British aircrew Sgt. Roland Hill, 32, Sgt. Peter Buck, 20, Sgt. Donald Hempstock, 21, and Canadian Flt Sgt. Gordon Harrison, age unknown.
