I thought I had seen this asked here in the past but don't remember the answer. Does anyone know of a serial list of the B-29's that were sent to China Lake? I'm researching one that supposedly was shot down in the Korean War, I requested the record card only to find that NASM shows it to be SOC in 1955 and transferred to the Navy. I'm wondering if it went to China Lake.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! Unfortunately my plane isn't there but one is within a few numbers of mine. I'm dealing with 44-62103. NASM referred me to Maxwell so that will have to be my next step.

Greg,
According to what I have, 44-62103 was named "Hauling Ass" with the 98th BG. It was delivered to the AAF on 9Aug45 and scrapped out at McClellan AFB in California on 28Sep54.

Thanks Brad!

She was indeed 'Haulin Ass' and flew from Yokota AFB with the 98th Bomb Group, 343rd Bomb Squadron. I'm good friends with the radio/ECM operator, whose name you can see on the side of the plane just under the word Force.

He didn't know the fate of the plane and we knew it flew with at least one more crew after his tour was up. I found on this site (http://home.comcast.net/~b29sinthekorea ... erList.htm)
years ago that it was supposedly shot down and ditched in the Sea of Japan, but it's clear now that this site's information is wrong. I'm sure it let him down to find that the plane had been shot down and I look forward to now being able to tell him that it wasn't, but scrapped is only slightly better I guess!
