I heard a story many years ago that a war surplus FM-2 Wildcat was brought to Haverhill or Lawrence, MA in 1945 and displayed outdoors for many years. It was eventually sold to a local man and kept in his yard for some time and then brought to Lawrence, MA airport where it continued to deteriorate until finally it was towed to a dump and buried. I heard the story from an aircraft mechanic and pilot who examined the aircraft just after it went on display and kept track of it until it was buried sometime in the 1960s-70s time frame. Anyone ever heard of it or have any photos of it?
