F4U Folks;

Good day!

While not exactly in a "barn" someplace in the USA... this sample was alive & kicking somewhere in the countryside of N. Calif. c. 2010! Photo via www/VP.

Your true 1000 footer-the strut doors and span are absolutely incorrect or the guy was using a North Korean made long lens, looks like some sort of film backdrop prop.

This is on a small ranch just south of hwy 50 in El Dorado Hills, off the bass lake road exit. I've driven up to the guy's gate and looked at it in years past and I don't believe it is real nor even a full-scale corsair replica.

There was a half scale WAR Aircraft replica made of foam and glass back in the 1980s and it might be one of those. It looks like the engine might be a Lycoming R-680 with a front mounted exhaust.

For those savvy enough to interpret...

This brings me to the question of a real Corsair that truly is in N. California....Only this one is an early bird-cage model...

Anyone care to bite?
PM me if you'd rather not discuss in open forum.

Tks for the info/data

I heard of a N. Calif area F4U in storage/restoration. Could this B-cage F4U be using parts fm a F4U-4 Buno 97320??

Tks

I have been to see this "thing" several years ago. It's only 5 miles from my house.
It is NOT a corsair. It is about a 75% scale mock up. The outer wings are ercoupe. The gull center section is welded from galv pipe and pop riveted and welded galv sheet. The fuselage is galv pipe and it goes on and on...
It's never going to fly, and the guy never intends to try. He told me years ago it was for his grand kids and he wanted to start the engine (forgot which one he has on it, 985 maybe or something smaller) and taxi it around his property( which is NOT flat).
So you guys can figure out the rest.
Chuck
