@TriangleP: I have no idea if this "gap" isn´t just due to the position of the pic taken, or if there is one in reality. But you might want to see how MeierMotors are recreating the upper cowling for the G-6 "Black 8" (AirFighter Academy / Hangar 10, formerly Michael Rinner, Austria):
