Warbird Information Exchange

I'm heading to Gainesville Municipal Airport TX for work next month, taking Falcon 20-5 down for inspection. I will be there for about 10 days. I wanted the Wixer's advise on what to see when I'm there. I plan on trying to hike the property of the airport to see if anything is left of the Army Base.

I mean other than going to Fort Worth for not only the VFM but also the rest of the fun down there, I don't really have any specific suggestions. Been quite a while since I was in Gainesville, but was recently warned to be careful up there by one of their 911 Dispatchers. Apparently it's not as nice of a place as it used to be.

In the D/FW metro area, you have plenty of aviation museums to see:

Well, it's time to head to Gainseville's Airport. I will be flying out tomorrow. I will post pictures of anything I find out there. I hope to find some cool stuff and info about the airfield during WWII.

These four Fort Worth attractions are all at one place: the Fort Worth Aviation Museum on Long Avenue at the very south end of Meacham Airport. Opened Wed, Sat,and Sunday.

Veterans' Memorial Airpark
Forward Air Controllers' Museum
B-36 Association
OV-10 Bronco Association

There isn't much of anything left of Gainesville AAF. However, there was also a large army base -- Camp Howze -- located there along with a POW camp.

To the east is Sherman... home of Grayson County Airport. During WW2 it was Perrin Field and during the Cold War Perrin AFB. There are some remnants there and they have a museum.... http://perrinafbhistoricalmuseum.org/

Over a weekend, Justin and Cowtown Aerocrafters is a neat place.

Oct 10&11 is the antique airplane fly-in at Gainesville. It is a nice relaxing fly-in.

There may still be the remains of a DC-4 "Carvair" way out on the east side of Gainesville Airport.

Army Air Forces Training Command headquarters formerly located on the top 3 or 4 floors of the Texas and Pacific Railway Building in downtown Fort Worth, TX.

The T&PRR building, located at the intersection of interstate highways 30 and 35 would make a quick drive by.

My mother worked in A2 at the AAFTC during WWII under General Yount.

She would have to secure and lock up filing cabinets whenever my dad came to pick her up. My dad was only a captain... he didn't have enough clearance.
