The Hellcat is back!...

Thu Mar 13, 2014 11:15 pm

A little over a week ago Jason brought the Hellcat to Vultures Row Aviation for final repairs from last years Reno Air Race incident. My close friend 'Mutha' asked me and my team to fix the F6F for him and the CAF.
This place has got some serious history going on !

Here she is sitting in the hangar with fellow warbirds Helldiver, Dauntless and Corsair parts.

The new leading edge skin fabricated and getting installed.

A first for me. Both arms in 3" lightening holes and using my bore scope to buck the rivets deep in the leading edge. UGH !#!%^*

The new Horizontal tip fabricated and fit.

Done and time to fly. Next stop Camarillo to meet up with others.

Mission accomplished. On the ramp at NAS El Centro for the first Airshow of the year 3/13/2014.

This Hellcat would fly so much better w/ a Miller Lite on the wing!

Totally inexcusable to have a truck anywhere there's a taxiway. Stupid. Not the pilot's fault at all. You think Reno would learn after previous incidents .

The Reno ramp is a busy place. Most of the teams have tow trucks used to pull the aircraft out into position, the aerobatic acts have vehicles to carry poles for ribbon cut etc, there is always something coming and going. It is the pilots responsibility to see and avoid. Taxying without making S-turns on a crowded ramp is bound to end in tears. :(

Thanks Mike, and glad this is ending well.

Hey Chuck,

If you get tired of that pesky cat bothering you at your shop, you can always send her to my house.
