Does anyone here have any recordings from the late 80's/ early 90's Discovery Wings program? I sure would like to have a few copies. There are no VHS or DVDs out and the only ones I can find are a few on youtube. Also note that there was actually several Discovery Wings programs. The originals where just called "Wings" narrated by Ron David and or Tom Hair. Some where redone or had Australian voice overs. But Im more interested in the American dub version.

thx,
Nate.

P.S. These were the best aircraft documentaries ever produced and showed some great long lasting never seen before footage. I surely miss watching them with my dad...as I was only 4 or 5 when they were coming out with them. :drink3:

P.S.S. Here is one sample of one on youtube talking about the XB-51. I think the episode is about the B-57. If it is there were two episodes done on the B-57. Tom Hair narrating this one. A strong powerful voice. :D

+1 on these being great documentaries. I remember Discovery used to run them weeknights at 11 PM, and you couldn't miss the marathons.

For the most part well done. Occasionally they'd venture into the waters of "Um...No!" land. For instance on their episode on the A-26 Invader they had:

"The A-26 had a top speed of 355 miles per hour, the same as a Messerchmitt 109-E, so if attacked, the A-26 pilot had the option of dogfighting with the attacking fighter"

This statement, while factually true, would not be possible. considering the A-26 didn't get into service until late-44/early-45, and the E-model 109s were pretty much gone by mid-'41. Also, in the formations used by 9th AF A-26s, dogfighting really wasn't and option. Maybe if the plane had problems and was lagging behind the formation and was able to get things sorted out.

For the most part, though, these kinds of items were the exceptions and not the rule.

I've only found a few. Great planes is a series kinda separate from the original series. :drink3:
