An absolutely wonderful yet somber, day of remembrance, reverence and respect at the D-Day Memorial yesterday. Sadly but a few of the veterans from the landings. Many distinguished dignitaries from several of our allied countries along with many thousands of us regular folks there to mingle with the veterans.

The first veteran I talked to was this man. He told me he was the pilot of a B-17 named Hubba Hubba. Flew his 35 missions, then volunteered to fly 10 more.

A veteran of Patton's 3rd Army. All he could talk about was how cold it was.

A very nice set of photos, and thank you for posting them.

The "Cub" you show in one of the photos is an Aeronca L-3, if it were a Cub it would be an L-4, the L-19 is the Cessna Bird Dog from Korea and Nam.
I saw another photo from somewhere else and it shows the bottom of the wing and the Stars and Bars are on upside down, the star always points up or forward.
