hypothetically speaking, what unusual or hitherto unseen authentic paint scheme would you like to see on a currently flying warbird?

here's a few which come to my mind:

P-51B "Berlin Express"
P-38 "Yippee"
P-38 "Haleakala"
P-40 "Stud"
F6F -overall orange or red drone colours
Zero -overall trainer orange

cheers

This could be a fun thread.

For me personally, I'd like to see a return of a certain P-51B to "Shangri-La" and a certain P-40K to "Burma Rascal"!

But since you asked for "hitherto unseen"...

How about a P-39 in polished metal and early markings--like the YP-39's?

How about a Silver and Chrome Yellow prototype scheme on an F4U-1 of FG-1D?
It would look pretty cool!

Mike Smith hated that scheme. Red spinner, orange rudder, aweful lime green paint, chrome plated main gear legs and guns barrels sticking 2' of the leading edge of the wings. Mike said it looks like something a pimp would fly and he should wear a paper sack over his head when flying it.

Orange rudder?

Lime Green paint?

I'm not seeing either looking at this link, but then my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

I do see what you mean about the .50's though.

Corsair or Bearcat (or SNJ or TV-2 or...) NAS Glenview Reserves
P-40B in Welch or Taylor's markings (see avatar)

Or maybe...
B-17G "Five Grand" (where's my crayons!?!)

An polished SBD with all the pre-war ID stripes, yellow wings, etc. would be really cool. I'd also like to see the 353rd FG Mustang "Dallas Doll" done, I think it would be striking scheme. I would also like to see a B-26K in Vietnam camo.

wow, B-17 "Five Grand"! How did I miss that one? You could get current Boeing employees to sign it, and any period employees who turn up at airshows could add their names; that would keep it pseudo-authentic, or at least "continuation" authentic, no? That would be breathtaking in the flesh. Wasn't there a B-25 and a B-24 done up in a similar fashion? And the polished SBD with all the pre-war ID stripes, yellow wings, etc. I agree would be stunning.

OK, how about:

P-39 -as Cobra I or II, complete w/ 4-bladed prop
P-63 -done up as a "pinball"
Me 262 -post-war Czech markings
Buchon -any spanish scheme, hold the crosses please...
B-24 -as any very bright formation ship!
B-25 -"Finito Benito Next Hirohito" (I actually found this interesting link while looking for a pic of this plane; it covers the effects of a volcanic eruption on B-25's):

Bearcat in utility scheme (blue fuselage, yellow wings w/ red bands)

P-40 - anything but AVG (it's a nice scheme, but almost everyone is painted the same / maybe nice north africa scheme of tan/brown over azure blue with yellow & black checkerboard tail or aleution tigers)

P-51 - "Detroit Miss"

Hellcat - tri-color with cat's mouth on nose

B-25 - desert sand over lt. gray w/ yellow cowling rings (like the old "Carol Jean")

There was a B-24J (F-7?) with an even more elaborate version of that same nose art in Puerto Princesa  ... pretty graphic!
