I was in my hangar at the Dawson Community Airport, Glendive, Montana (GDV) goofing around, when I heard the unmistakable sound of a multiple-engine, round engine airplane. Poked my head around the corner of the hangar, and lo and behold, a B-17, approximately 1000' AGL was lumbering over the airport northeast-bound.
I immediately grabbed the handheld and transmitted in the blind on 122.80 and pleaded to the crew to do a fly-by. Evidently they either ignored me or were monitoring another frequency(s).
The B-17 and B-24 were in Billings, Montana (BIL) this past weekend. The airplane looked like it was headed either for Sidney, Montana (SDY) or Williston, North Dakota (ISN).
Whatever the case may be, you guys MADE MY DAY. Extremely rare to see a such a neat piece of history fly over my home airport and the fact that I was there to see it was priceless. It brought a smile to my face and warmed my heart. GodSpeed...wherever you were headed...Thank you fellas.
