Hello,

Can anyone confirm the existance of an A6M2 Zero (s/n 5349) at the Darwin Aviation Museum? If so, is it a complete wreck or ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ron

and

The link to the museum's site doesn't work (for me, at least).

I've been on their site before and they have a pic or two of it, so I know its their. Also, you can try the Pacific Ghosts CD, its got bigger pics.

Hi ROn:

I've noticed that you haven't responded to my PM's or queries. I am planning some trips to find a Japanese plane. If and when I do find one, I wonder how I should respond when you come to kme to ask about it?

Ok Ron; well at least I got your attention on my third attempt; I was wondering if I could contact your friend in Japan regarding finding a plane in the Japanese Philippines? I am headed out that way in 1 month. If I could actually see some existing aircraft that would be a great help!

Thanks,

Chris

Hello Chris,

I heard about possible Japanese wrecks in the Philippines now for several years through the "grapevine" of collector/historian friends. Unfortunately, nothing was ever backed up with photos/other data. Sorry I have nothing concrete as of yet.

I will believe their stories only when I see some concrete data/photos.

Happy Hunting,

Ron

Hi Ron:

Well, I believe you had said your Japanese friend, a collector claims that he knows were there are Japanese planes in the Philippines. Do you have any contact info for him?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry for the late reply, but I only recently found out about this forum.
Anyway, back in 2001 I toured Australia (from Perth to Darwin in a rented Land Rover 300 TDI... yessss) and visited the Aviation Heritage Museum in Winnelie (near Darwin), along the Stuart Highway. I took pictures there of the Zero with C/N 5349 you mention. In 2003 I offered them to a website specializing in Japanese aircraft, and so they can be viewed here:
http://www.j-aircraft.com/relics/handeridder/zero.htm

I hope this helps. Enjoy.

Tillerman.
