As it has been discussed before here, the B-17G “Fuddy Duddy” (N9563Z) is up for sale. The 1941 HAG at Geneseo NY is asking for input on trying to keep this aircraft in Western NY, I personally hope that it will return to Geneseo and to the air. If you like to voice your support PLEASE do. Just follow the link and look for the URGENT notice.

What "input" are they looking for? A letter writing campaign? A bunch of e-mails? Sounds to me like the input that is required is money!

Will the aircraft be on the market long enough that a fundraiser would be effective? If so, why didn't NWM do that?

I assume that yes money might be the end goal but maybe just a feeler for public opinion to start? I'm not sure if my piggy bank will be very helpful :(

I think NYS is somewhat involved already with Fuddy Duddy; maybe that is a helpful factor for the Museum.

I posted this mostly because there are several members of WIX that have ties to the HAG and should voice their opinions on this matter or have the opportunity to do so (in my mind at least).

Here is an update on the 1941 HAG site about what is going on. This might answer a few question, and/or draw out a few new ones. I think all members received this over the weekend, now that it is on the site I'll draw your attention to it.

What kind of strings are attached if you are asking the state government for money? :?

I would think that any strings would have to be in the form of a lien on the aircraft. This would show up in the FAA records, wouldn't it? Otherwise I don't see what strings the state would have unless they had contractual agreement, but that wouldn't directly stop an aircraft from being sold. Maybe they could sue the foundation though?

I'm trying to keep this generic and not tie this to any particular aircraft, because that is not why I'm asking.

If they applied for and received state grant money from a specific fund the strings would have been in the specs for the grant. A lot of states have grant programs for historical items and you are tied down forever with those specifications.
