I wanted to get the general conscious on what a Lycoming R-680 300 HP core engine, Stearman engine mount, and cowling is worth ?
- Engine does not have it's accessories
- No logs
- Engine mount has been drilled for 3/8's bolts ? I believe could be a problem
- The cowling is in descent shape

What do you think a R-985-AN-3 core engine is worth?
- US Navy engine
- Cylinder #5 has a hole in it from a hydraulic lock (#5 is a low cylinder)
- Been sitting since 1952
- No logs
- Complete accessories
- Shows some corrosion around the rear of the crank case, It's been indoors since 1952. Was told it was in a building that leaked for a time.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Looked online for prices of rebuilding or purchasing both the 680 and 985 and found ,if anything can be taken from it,
that a 680 can be rebuilt for about $28k with exchange or bought outright for about $32.5k . A 985 the same rebuild about
$38k with exchange or $49k outright and a 1340 rebuild with exchange of $41k or outright at $61k. Does that mean the difference
between the exchange price and the outright price is the core value? I don't know. Guess it would depend on conditions of the engines.

I logs will be an issue and will drive down prices, my guess a lot.

Pj, yes the difference between exchange and overhaul is typically the core value.

I've been casually looking for a radial core to play around with and have seen prices range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand with papers. The auction in Detroit recently had a rather large amount of radials go pretty cheap. If I was closer i would have grabbed two!! So where are you in MD?

It was an auction of all old stuff from a defunct aviation school.
