My personal feeling is this all needs to just be let go. She was lost at sea. Nothing too mysterious about that. How many other people are lost out there and don't get the recognition like Amelia get's. Note: Not to discredit those that do find it important to find her and or are interested in the subject.

This paiece of the aircraft has alreadty been id'd as being of 1940's vintage and the hole pattern actually does not match the Earhart aircraft.

I too agree that she went down in the water .
There are lots of crackpots out there trying to say otherwise but none of them have actual solid proof that she made it to some island etc. It's all just hearsay until an actual part of the aircraft is found
There is the "alternate plan " theory but apparently she only told a couple of confidants.
If it existed it would have been something she shared widely with all the support groups involved and she didn't.
Maybe people should just listen to what Earhart said . She stated that she was low on fuel and could not see the Howland Island. Even the Naval Radio Operator said her voice sounded shrill and panicky

Doesn't look like the same rivet pattern to me. Doesn't even look like they are the same diameter rivets. But, hey, what do I know?

Where are the rivets that filled the holes and the structure it was riveted to? The natives drill them out? Winter vacation time in the SWP

If it "replaced a navigation window", wouldn't there be a gap in the rivet pattern where the window opening was?

That is an unusually tight rivet pattern. And it would not take that kind of rivet pattern to cover a window opening in a non-pressurized aircraft. Your thinking that there ought to be a gap is a logical thought.
My guess is this piece is from a control surface of an aircraft, such as a large rudder.
