A great request. Both are neat airplanes that don't get enough attention. I'll post the first photo of something you've been looking for. Hope this helps.
Sources, SDASM archives, NMNA archives, my own stuff.

Antietam was unique among the Essex carriers, as she got the angled flight deck, but did not get the SCB-27 or 125 modifications. IIRC, Antietam was the first of American carrier to be fitted with the angled deck after the British had developed the concept for their carriers.

An excellent selection of shots. Thanks Mark. That's the first picture that I've seen of an A3D on or near a hangar deck and I've got about every book available on that airplane. It's also very difficult to find any material concerning ASW aircraft carriers. Thank you the link to the S2 site, as well. I didn't know about that one.

hi Mark,
Very nice pictures of S-2s but I would like to know who you got the pictures from. Two of the pictures, the color VS-25 S-2E on the cat and the color approach to USS Yorktown are my personal pictures. I also recognize most of the Navy S-2 pictures from our files at the Tailhook Association. All the images we use have captions on them that list the particulars as well as who took the picture. I think you should do a bit better in giving credit to the photographer/organization rather than just blanket listing the SDASM, archives, your collection. I spent a lot of time and effort in collecting most of the pictures you used and in scanning collections we receive that are also in this series and I would expect credit be given. We at The Hook magazine always give credit to the photographer/organization if we publish a picture in our magazine. Enough said my e-mail at work is thookassn@aol.com. I would like to find out who gave you those pictures.
On the positive side I really enjoy your on going series of images on Warbirds.

Greetings Doug, where to start. The majority of the S2 photos came from various different Flickr accounts under 'S2 Tracker" photostream and a general search of flickr itself. I'm afraid your tracker photos are scattered about on many folks websites, flickr accounts and facebook pages. Many of the other S2 photos came from the National Museum of Naval Aviation archives of which many are now posted on the NMNA facebook page. Most all the A-3 photos came from the same National Museum of Naval Aviation archives (of which I have been a financial supporter for several years now so I don't feel bad about posting photos from their archives). Several came from the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Most all of the photos I post, as well as some of your photos, are also for sale on ebay, of which I do not participate and never will. I don't sell photos as I just post them for the benefit of the WIX members, family and veterans who ask for help in finding photos. I have no idea how and where your photos came from originally and I can assure you I always do my best to acquire permission and state clearly my sources when and if I can. I have no interest in scavenging photos from others who may not want me to be posting them here or anywhere for that matter. I sincerely apologize for any photos of yours that I posted without your permission and if you can point them out I will remove them immediately. (EDIT: your photos that I believe to be yours have now been removed, I have zero interest in drama)

I think I do just fine at doing my best to give credit to whomever the photographer/organization is/are when I know that information myself. My track record is not that bad around here in that regard. Feel free to PM me anytime to discuss further as it might serve you to do better in that regard as opposed to public accusations.

You'll also notice that many of your Tracker photos are posted on this site. Would this be your site?
http://www.vpnavy.org/aircraft_s2_aircraft.html

FWIW I've posted thousands of photos over the years on this website for no other reason than for the information, education and enjoyment of its members. I ask for nothing other than to show compassion and respect to those who flew these old airplanes. Out of thousands of photos I've posted this is the only time I can recall anyone having an issue with what I've posted. Ya can't win em all.

Again my apology to you and your outfit. I'll be more careful from now on moving forward.

Mark

No drama Allen, just a recommendation that you make a effort to better credit the excellent photos you post. Almost all are public domain but its nice to give the photographer/organization credit. Thanks for removing my personal photos. I will be careful in the future about handling the photos I deal with. We have no connection with the VP site by the way.

Doug I'll state it again. I'm satisfied with the efforts I make to give credit where credit is due. I have no control and no time to try to research every photo I post on WIX. It's simply too difficult to try to back track someone else's photos they find from ten locations and accounts before them to see where they came from originally. I roll the dice and take my chances that what I post and how I credit them is satisfactory in terms of fairness and respect to whomever originally took or owned the original. I make as best an effort as I see fit and I'm satisfied with it. The WIX management seems satisfied as well and trust me they'll let me know if something is wrong. I have no problems there.

I've posted many times in the past this very information I'm stating now. If there's ever a problem I simply remove a photo as it's not worth my time to debate it. I appreciate your advice but respectfully it's not needed. I again apologize for posting photos that belonged to you of which I had no idea. If there is anything to be upset about if I were you it would be the guys selling your photos on eBay. At least here on WIX their appreciated and viewed with respect.

Any other photos you find that I posted please contact me ASAP and I will promptly remove them.

Sincerely,

Mark
