Hi,

Does anyone know much about Hess Bomberger? As a kid growing up I heard he flew in WWII and had his P-51 painted like his wartime a/c.
Is he still around or flying? What was the name on his Mustang and what did it mean? Where is his plane now?

Thanks,
Mike

His Mustang was called 'Vergeltungswaffe' (I forget the translation...)painted in a 356th FG scheme, and was P-51D, s/n 44-74497, ex-RCAF 9230, N6320T. It has since been coverted to full 'TF' configuration, and is owned by Bob Jepson. It now wears a 353rd FG scheme as 'Little Witch.' Jim

A photo of the P-51 at Hamilton in the early 80s.

I remember him talking about the name meaning special weapon and his family shield is on it as well. A really nice guy. He came to Breckenridge a few times with Jimmy Hunt in Contrary Mary. :)

Cheers,

Lynn

Scott, as I mentioned above, it is s/n 44-74497, now owned by Bob Jepson.

Sorry, I entered this conversation so late. I have been away for a week.
The actual translation means; RETALIATION WEAPON.
