I'm in the process of creating a 3D model and rendering of a Merlin engine for a portfolio project. I'm trying to make it as visually accurate as I can, and have been collecting many photo and drawing references. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to anything on the wheel case without any of the accessories on it? So far everything I've found you can't really see the shape or how it attaches to the crankcase and supercharger.

TIA

Bret

It would really depend on the variant of Merlin you have in mind. Most have universal attachments. I will get some photos of our 224's on the weekend.

The dimensioned drawing I'm basing my modeling on is for a Merlin 25, but I'm going to use the best references from photos I can find for the details.

Anything you can get would be greatly appreciated!

Curious what rendering engine/program you might be using?

I've been working with the open-source program Blender.

I also use Blender.

I would love to see your work, as you progress. fsxar177@gmail.com

Just remembered - we have posted on our website some photos of the wheelcase in various states.
They can be found here - http://avrolancasterfm104.com/gallery/wheelcase
There are other photos as well. If you need something specific, just ask and I'll see if we have it.

Cheers,
Joe

Look for RR T.S.D. Publication 277
Its a sales/engineering brochure for the 620/720 series.
I have one for the Griffon 34 which I surmise was hoped to be commercial version of the 58/5900.
It had dimensioned drawings with mounting feet, oil and coolant connecting ports dimensioned.
You might try finding this TSD and see if it has those dims.

Thanks Rich – I see one listed on Ebay (and that it was available from google books online, but no longer)
I actually have gotten many of the best photo references from your threads on here so far. And a lot of good images from the RR parts catalogs and maintenance manuals.
