F8F as in Bearcat? Interesting that there would still be one on charge in 1971. Anyone know more? Is it mentioned in one of the early Wrecks & Relics lists?

Could it be Bu 121608 N7700C? Bill Fornoff was killed at Quonset Point in this Bearcat 6/5/1971.

I guess it is possible it is a typo and it is really an F-8 Crusader...

Warbirdnerd - I made a phone call to Quonset Point Disposal and was told that aircraft crashed and no large pieces were left including engine. I don't recall if I asked if Bearcat was civilian or not, but drew the same conclusion as you have in that it was not a military bird at the time... :?

The description of the wreckage makes me lean towards 7700C...

The C-119 at O'Hare was put on static display in the grass by the main entrance to the 928th Air Force Reserve/ 126th Illinois ANG Base on the corner of Higgins and Mannheim Roads. It was eventually removed or scrapped in the late 70's. Not sure if it was the same plane that wound up at the 440th Air Force Reserve Wing at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee WI?
The base in Milwaukee is now closed and the C-119 that was there is gone. Not sure where it went?

UC61K - Very interesting...The Boxcar was up for sale in more than one catelog...If it was put up for sale in the late 1970's, I'll probably run across catelog in the near future... 8)
