Hello WIX friends!

In addition to the P-51B "Lucy Gal," I would like to have a flying Yak-1,3,7,or 9 as well. I'd like to do one in honor of "Yellow 44." I have heard that some were made of a steel frame with wood wings, etc.

My question is, has anyone (besides Yak themselves with the 3M/3U) reproduced a Yak full-scale recently? Are their plans/blueprints readily available?

Thanks, gang!

I know that "John" Garric (A French man but living in Texas) made various full scale reprodutions of Yak. From what I heard, He dissassembled a complete existing airframe to being able to reproduce the plane.

Ha was also the builder of a incredible reproduction of a Potez 63-11.

Regards

Not to be a killjoy or a jerk, but why not build an L-4? A Mustang is going to be upwards of 1mil +....a yak will be well over 500k....an L-4, priced out from Wag-Aero, around $20-25,000. It's not as glamorous but its a great place to start, learn basic welding and fabric skills AND tailwheel skills. Just a thought...I don't ever want to kick somebody's dream in the teeth. good luck!!!

Jim

Hi Austin,

Just to expand on some previous thoughts:

I believe Jean Garric constructed his Yak-3 replica by modeling an original airframe and adding Yak-11 wings (and a V-1710, of course). You can search the FAA database under N# "N3UA" for his contact info.

I'm really not familiar with the construction details for the following Yak-7 other than what's in this linked article:

http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_300c.html

Again, for contact info try N# "N7YK" at the FAA site.

Apparently current conversion work continues in NZ on the following Yak-9V project:

http://jemaviation.co.nz/current/yak-9v/

You may need to part with $40,000 to gain any trade secrets, but there must be worse things in life than being a part-owner of a piston fighter.

I even recall a Merlin-engined project up for sale a few years ago...sound familiar, anyone?

Ahh yes, that name is familiar. Would anyone happen to be in touch with him?

I totally hear you, Jim. I was in fact planning on starting small with an L-4 (or the like.) We will need a basic-light trainer to start with anyways. The P-51 and Yak are more going to be "human interest" projects, with part-owners and sponsors (P-51 for Pennington, Yak for Litvyak.) Eventually they will all be part of the business/museum I am planning. A ways down the road, but I like to be prepared. Good input, you "get" my dreams, Jim.

Oh, very good finds! Thank you for digging even deeper. I really do like the part-owner idea, realistically, getting myself set up as a non-profit museum with partners/sponsors is my ticket to making this all happen. As I mentioned to Jim, it is going to be a memorial project, if anything. :drinkers:

Keep the info coming, good stuff all! Thank you!
