Hi folks - looking for some help with this. A longshot, I know, but I figured this was a good place to ask.
Canso OA-10A 44-34080 was assigned to the 4ERS. It was shot down in Tokyo Bay on Aug. 13, 1945, while attempting to rescue a downed Hellcat pilot. I have been told it was the last multi-member crewed American aircraft shot down in WWII. The only survivor, the engineer Sgt. Roger Regain, was a distant relative. He passed away a few years ago. There is a writeup on the incident over at PacificWrecks.com (including the name of the Japanese pilot who shot them down).
The aircraft had nose art, and was named "Kalamity Kat'. However, we don't have or know of any photograph of the aircraft. I am trying to locate one, hopefully showing the nose art in some way. I also am looking for any photos, especially color, of 4ERS Dumbos of that era.
I am hoping to gather these so I can commission a piece of artwork for his surviving relatives.
