Warbird Information Exchange

Noticed these two photos a long while back while looking for something else.

This I believe is post-war Clark Field Philippines c late 1945-46. Republic P-47N-5-RE serial 44-88587, "Gremlin Bait" formerly assigned to the 437th Fighter Squadron, 414th Fighter Group. One source states "A metal 'vent' has been placed in the canopy opening to keep the temperatures down in the sunlight, while keeping the rain out." ... looks kind of primitive to me, but whatever works I suppose. Perhaps these could be used today on the airshow circuit at the hot locations. Chino? ...

Zero Surprise!!...

I've seen a picture of an entire airfield of P-51's with a similar set-up.

That a new one for me, likely quite helpfull for some climates.. Surely better than the "let's just crack the canopy open a bit" process a few outside display/museums resorted to...for LONG TIME storage.....
