Mystery Bell P-63 in USSR??

P-63 Folks:

Do anyone in here remembers a post about a mystery Bell P-63 found among some Mig 21/23 fuselages in the former USSR?? a museum or storage yard area?? Tks in advance.

p.s Tks to Flypast colleague SScooter & posss Flanker man for info & data. Notice the P-63 it's still in AAF markings in Winter 2014!! The place is in a storage area somewhere in the former USSR. The P-63 is noted as privately own. We'd like to follow -up on this gem.[/color]

As mentioned int he other post, it is privately owned. The wreck was recovered from the Kuril islands, rebuilt in Moscow and is part of the Technical Museum of Vadim Zadorozhny. The pictured aircraft are now stored at an airfield around 40km south of Moscow in anticipation of the build of a new facility.

Interesting.

The spotter in me can't help but mention those appear to be MiG 23/27 fuselages either side of the P-63. Sukhois (with the twin engines ones being Su-15 perhaps, and perhaps a Su-17/22 in tan and graffiti on its side), MiG-25's and more 23/27's in the next row by the Robinson helos.

p.s It's odd that a WW II aircraft ended -up with the jets. I do not think it came fm the Kuril Island stash as it does not have the "Red Star" or the weathering shown in the fuselage. Would luv to be a dronefly in that place! Photo via Flypast Forum.

Think what you like - I know who recovered it and who rebuilt it - he happens to be a good friend of mine. Funny, people don't want to hear 'facts' if they don't fit their preconceived notions as to what something 'should' look like. Perhaps the owner wanted it to be finished in US markings...anyway, since you know better I won't bother digging out any serial number.

It's all good! It's ok to disagree cordially. I have a poc going back to the place for some more close-ups, specially the cockpit area. I can assure you that the sample in question does not have ID plates in the cockpit. But it does in other places. ..time to move on!!! Life's short.
