**SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT**

The Museum has been offered a once in a lifetime chance to acquire a rare Australian built CAC Mustang - A CA-17 MK20 numbered A68-71.

It is the third oldest surviving of its type in the world but most importantly it is the oldest surviving CAC Mustang in Australia.

This aircraft was also used for CSIRO cloud seeding trials along with the Cessna 310 already in our collection so not only does it fill a major gap in the CAC collection, it also completes an important part within science and technology.

To that end we need to raise funds for the aircraft. The total goal for this project is $350,000 which includes the acquisition and subsequent final restoration and assembly. It does not have a prop nor an engine (we can sort the former quickly with the prop on display and are already negotiating on an engine loan) however the rest of the aircraft is complete and in very good condition, having been inside since 1984.

We ask all those who can donate or raise funds to help us out with this incredible project. Remember that any donation over $2 is Tax Deductible (The Museum is a DGR Item 1 and 4 and a registered not for profit organisation within Australia). If you know of any businesses or individuals who could help out, please pass the information on as well. We will keep you informed of any developments as they happen.

Please note that you can pay by PayPal (includes credit cards) or bank transfer which you can find on our page below (click link etc)

Remember to share this with anyone who may be interested and let's make this a reality.

Cheers
Ewan

Off to a great start for the first week.

For those overseas, we noted on FB that our post was seen by over 40,000 people - if they had all chipped in $5 we'd have made it :D

Anyway, even if it is $5USD or more every last bit will help us get this P-51 into the Museum, painted up and able to ground run. It is in great condition (disassembled but on jigs) having been worked on in a storage area since 1984. Below is the only known photo of A68-71.

If you can help or share with others that would be fantastic - paypal addy is secretary@aarg.com.au

Being a fully volunteer based museum with next to no government funding we rely on the help of aviation lovers from around the world - thank you !

Sounds great ! Ewan, btw, this CAC Mustang is Not (?) the one that had it wings cut off outside of the landing gear ? I just remember an older aviation publication with a picture of a CAC Mustang in that condition, thank you, Tony

No not this one, that one sounds like the one that ended up at the War Memorial in Canberra.

Cheers

Not too bad at all - $11K in a week is a fantastic result.

We have also started a crowdfunding run on Pozible http://www.pozible.com/project/195714

Worth a mention too that $5 USD is more than $6.30 AUD so even if you are donating just $5 then we will hit our target faster as we are in AUD.

Please let all the Mustang lovers of the world know :)

Cheers

That is fantastic and greatly appreciated Lynn ! Thank you so much from all of us over here in the cold confines of the hangar (not used to low windy temps like this !!)

Cheers

Maybe a bunch of us here on the board can pass the hat around so we all can send a few dollars like we did for the guns in Diamond Lil and then somebody can put a WIX sticker on it somewhere...

Brilliant idea ! Yes we can certainly put a WIX logo on the aircraft. Thanks for the support and enthusiasm, greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I've been told by a confidential source ( ) that there are some great "rewards" for pledging and donating to the Mustang project. Get in there, folks!

I'm in for $25 AU. Good luck.

Looks like the link in the original post doesn't work. Here's the one I used: http://www.aarg.com.au/the-mustang-project.html
