Movie airfield ID: Barstow, Mojave or ?

Tue Jul 21, 2015 5:23 pm

As you may recall, I've posted before about the Cessna T-50 that was wrecked in the 1959 movie The Trap. Question here: Which airport is this? It's supposed to be Barstow but I wonder if it's Mojave, or someplace else?

I agree, too hilly up for Mojave.

BTW: Wasn't Mojave still a USMC base in '59?

BTW: N22414 is still around. It's a Howard.

Looks a lot like the Barstow area to me.

I'm going to guess Barstow, looks like a shoot for TV program Highway Patrol. They used the same cars the star was a big fat guy can't member his name.

Highway patrol star Broderick Crawford 1955 to 1959, featured two way radios and used 10 4 a whole lot.

Just to be clear, these images were from the 1959 Richard Widmark movie The Trap. The airport is referred to as Barstow in the script, but I thought it was a lot more built up at that time (it was a Marine Corps supply center).

Highway Patrol was filmed in black & white and the series used Buicks most of the time, not Plymouths.

There was a time when the various makes of American cars looked different from one another. pop1

Airport is very small, and has a tiny runway....Barstow or Mojave are huge airstrips with
Bomber size pavement. Outbuildings and town look familiar, and it sure looks like the
Airport at Amboy, Ca on Route 66. Place is still there , but not much else.
