Hi guys,
I am working on the history of the 558th Flying Training Squadron. In 1966-1968 the by then 558th TFS was operating XD tail coded F-4Cs out of Cam Ranh Bay. I am trying to find out what color fin caps the aircraft used. According to Patrick Martin's book Tail Code the 558th was assigned green or blue as squadron color. But I found a pic of F-4C 63-7496 showing the 558th TFS badge on the aircraft's intake and tail coded XD but with a yellow fin cap. Anybody have some additional info on this?

The paint job in your photo looks like it is very fresh and the tail cap doesn't look distinctly yellow to me. Is there any chance that the tail cap is primer and the final color hasn't been applied yet?

The tail cap almost looks like that gold/tan unpainted radome color.
More than likely, it's just faded yellow.

Actually, the color isn't that far off...look at the yellow used by the USAF in the same period in the first photo on this thread:
