We went with full flat acrylic urethane from Summit Racing. Over the years I have tried Air Tech, Imron, Aerothane, PPG, among others and an assortment of flattening agents including powders and clear liquid provided by the paint manufacturers. The only one that even came close to looking right was Poly Fiber Aerothane using their ground powdered silica.
All of them are difficult to shoot and are very sensitive to film thickness, color change depending on the amount of flattening agent, type of speed of activator temperature of paint booth, humidity and finally Moon Phase
This Summit Racing paint is very good and comes already flat out of the can so no additional mixing of flattening agent is required, However it is still plagued by the same issues all flat paints have that are listed above. It is much easier to simply shoot a satin, gloss or high gloss finish than struggle with trying to achieve a realistic flat finish the same as the old enamels and lacquers that readily flattened and went on uniform and were very easy to shoot.
The finish finally came out good but I recommend the paint with caution as spraying a full flat finish is not for the faint of heart. We had a temperature change late on day two that resulted in some areas turning satin that had to be resprayed.
All in all I believe it was worth the trouble and I now have the flat "weathered" in Country look I wanted. Most paint shops will run away when you start talking to them about doing a flat (not satin) finish.
