B-29 45-21739 On Display In Korea?

Does anyone have any info on this aircraft. Supposedly it was pulled from China Lake and sent to Korea for display. I've never been able to find a picture of it or any info. Was it flown to Korea (like "Its Hawg Wild" to Duxford)? Was it sent by ship? Does it still exist? Thanks.

I'm starting to think that this aircraft never went to Korea and was probably scrapped at China Lake. A friend of mine was stationed in Korea recently and I asked him to look and try and find some info on it. He found nothing....

According to this website, B-29 45-21739 is on display at a museum in Korea, near Soeul.

The same B-29 is listed on a japanese website as being in Soeul as well...

... I've seen this stuff on my searches for information on this particular B-29. I'm still skeptical. It seems odd that not one picture of this aircraft has surfaced - I've been looking a long time. Pulling "It's Hawg Wild" out of China Lake and getting it to Duxford was a well documented affair. Wouldn't a similar effort to get a B-29 to Korea also be documented. Unless a picture surfaces of this aircraft on display, I have my doubts that it still exists. I'll keep looking............

I have actually seen a picture of the aircraft, sitting outside with an F4U-4 in close proximity. I could not find this image again though. The aircraft was supposedly transfered in 1972.

The October 1973 issue of Kokufan magazine had a four pages story of the dismantle and display of '739:

There's also a picture of her in book WarbirdTech volume 14, page 97.

According to the website for the Korean Aerospace Industry Aerospace Museum in Sancheon, Korea, they have a B-29 on out door display. If you look at the scrolling picture on the site, you can see the B-29 displayed very near the F4U-4, as I had mentioned earlier... There is also this photo, which I feel offers conclusive proof. Wait for the animated photo at the top of the webpage to cycle and you can see another view of it.

It looks like they have permanent stairs going to some of the cargo aircraft there. A C-124 is fun to climb through!

it looks to be in pretty decent shape!!! what does it say above the u.s. air force label behind the cockpit??? looks to me like the word "unification" now keep in mind my 1st wife was an optician, hence my blindness & clock cleaning from her in 1995 :wink:

It looks like UNIFICATION to me......... Funny how it still has the training markings - the large number 48 on the tail. I think FIFI had a 31 on it's tail...

Oh....wow.....

Being one who has a great interest in B-29s, I have been searching for proof of this B-29's existence for some time. Now that I know it exists...well, there are few words to describe my sentiments. Thank you Mr. Allnutt. Now I have concrete proof of its' existence--proof which I can put on my B-29 Survivors list.
