Does anyone know what the status of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's R4D is? The last time I seen it it was looking rather forlorn and frankly neglected and obviously non-airworthy. I know that years ago they were having engine issues but I do not know if that contributed to it or not. I have many fond memories of flying in her. I know that museums everywhere are suffering but it seems that most of the "flyable" planes at MAAM are anything but. The only ones I know of are the B-25, the Avenger, and some of the singles like the SNJ that they occasionally give rides in. Most of the ones I got to fly in 20 years ago haven't seen air under their wings in many years. I know, I know, it all takes $$$$$ and lots more than I will ever have. Maybe they are devoting all of their limited resources on finishing the P-61.

The docent told me on my 2015 visit that it was high on their list of getting some needed attention. As you speculated he said the black widow was receiving most of their current resources. He also pointed out their desire to obtain more hangar space to get birds like the R4D in from the elements. I too have a soft spot for that plane. As a local to the museum I grew up watching those planes fly over my house in the 80s when they were still located at Harrisburg International.

The new hanger is on the way, they announced an 80 x 80 hanger will be built this late summer/fall. A new storage building and a hanger, it's been a good year at the MAAM.
