No matter how bleak the world can look at times. There will always be hero's to remind us of the greatness that humans can be. True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. On a normal day, we value heroism because it is uncommon. During the Battle of Britain, we valued heroism because it was everywhere.

May God continue to bless "The Few" ...

What's missing? I think the rendering above covers the 'principal' aircraft involved in the BOB.

Below the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, built in 1993

Memorial wall with the names of all the ‘Few’ that were involved in the battle on the Allied side.

The memorial center piece is a statue of a pilot, placed in the center of a huge propeller created with paving stones.

An early view of the BOB Memorial before the visitor center was completed and other areas under construction. Just above and to the right of the propeller are the Spitfire and Hurricane replicas on display. A wonderful place to visit to reflect and remember.

Lovely memorial. It's been over 20 years since I've been to England, I hope I'm able to return someday.

What is the origin and meaning of the two flat-topped mounds to the left of the "propeller" in the picture?

Thanks!

Mickey's ears? :D

No, seriously, this is a very cool place to visit and reflect if you are in the Dover vicinity. Plenty of picture spots and history to absorb.
I did not realize the visitor center was built to the elliptical shape. I'll have to go back and check that out.

A beautiful place and very thought provoking. It certainly felt like hallowed ground. I parked my rental car there once after saying "to h*ll with trying to drive on the wrong side of the road". Took the train into London from there.

Gladiators/Sea Gladiators also took part in the defence of Britain - one of them being flown by none other than the world's greatest pilot Eric 'Winkle' Brown, who never got a Battle of Britain Clasp awarded for his efforts. Also the Bristol Beaufighter entered service during the battle.

The Germans used some Focke Wulf Condors to attack Allied convoys. And their Heinkel 59's became quite a menace, to the point where the RAF decided to shoot them down despite wearing red cross symbols.

Also on the Axis side there were Italy's Fiat BR.20 bombers, Macchi C.200 fighters and Fiat G.50 and Fiat Cr.42 fighters that made a few attacks, but they were not exactly big players in the events of those fateful months.
